Cheria hails from the border town of Lhant, in a temperate and prosperous country called Windor. She is the granddaughter of Frederic Barnes, the butler employed at the manor of Aston Lhant, the local lord. This connection brought her into contact with Aston's sons, Asbel and Hubert, whom she became friends with (and, in the case of Asbel, developed a crush on). However, a severe chronic illness (unspecified but apparently respiratory in nature) frequently sidelined her with fatigue, preventing her from playing with them as much as she wanted to.

At age 11, Cheria meets Sophie, an amnesiac girl brought to Lhant by Asbel after he and Hubert take a secret trip outside of town. This sets off a series of unfortunate events that culminates in Cheria losing Asbel, Hubert, and Sophie in various ways but gaining full health and the mysterious ability to produce a healing light from her hands. Newly empowered both figuratively and literally, Cheria spends the next several years making good use of her healing ability, particularly as border disputes between Lhant and the neighboring country of Fendel grow increasingly fraught.

When Lord Aston is killed as a result of this escalating conflict, Cheria is sent to track down Asbel — who had left home to train as a knight in Windor's capital city — as well as to ask Windor's royal knights for additional aid in defending against Fendel. Asbel accompanies Cheria back to Lhant both to pay respects to his late father as well as to assess the severity of the situation between Lhant and Fendel. Upon returning to Lhant, the two are confronted with the terrible news that Frederic has been taken hostage by invading Fendelian forces.

Although Frederic is successfully rescued, Cheria and Asbel end up cornered by Fendel's new mobile weapons. At the last second, Sophie — or, at least, a girl that appears to be her, since she was thought dead — appears to help force Fendel into a temporary retreat. The three return to Lhant, with Cheria and Asbel pondering the mystery of Sophie's appearance and planning out how to drive Fendel out once and for all...

• Cheria is very much The Mom Friend, always checking in with those around her and providing whatever comfort/aid might be needed. Don't be afraid to ask her for help!
  
• Related to this, she's a very good cook! Definitely one of her love languages.
  
• She loves loves looooooves romantic gossip and the like — spill that tea and she'll lap it right the fuck up. While she's hesitant to talk much about her own love life (ha...ha ha), she's great if you want a listening ear for relationship troubles (or relationship highlights!).
  
• She can sing decently well and has some knowledge of playing the piano, although she doesn't pursue either of these skills seriously.
  
• While she doesn't like fighting (as mentioned above), she'll absolutely throw down to protect others. Though offensively capable, ideally she should have someone who can cover for her somehow while she fires up her spells. Here's an extremely brief rundown of what she's capable of.

• It would be great for Cheria to get more female friendships, especially if they're galpals/big sisters/maternal figures she can rely on for advice, understanding, and/or a shoulder to sigh on. She's very frequently the straight (wo)man in her canon interactions having to herd cats and I think she should catch a break! at least in this instance. I make her suffer in other ways
